Member Spotlight: Alexa

When Alexa moved to Raleigh in early 2019, she knew she wanted to do more than just settle into a new city—she wanted to find her community. By June of that year, she found exactly that in Civitan.

Her first event, Wine & Weeds at Raleigh City Farm, set the tone for what was to come. Surrounded by friendly faces, laughter, and a shared purpose, Alexa immediately felt at home.

“Everyone was so welcoming and friendly, and I knew right away that I wanted to be a part of the club.”

Stepping Into Leadership

Alexa quickly became more than just a familiar face at events. By October 2020, she joined the Civitan Board, serving as Secretary for two years. From there, she stepped into the roles of President-Elect and then President, helping guide the club through seasons of growth and community impact. Her leadership has been instrumental in strengthening both the service projects and the relationships that keep Civitan thriving.

Spreading Joy at Trunk or Treat

Among the many events she’s attended, Alexa’s favorite is the annual Trunk or Treat at the Raleigh Boys Club. She loves decorating cars, passing out candy, and seeing kids light up as they show off their costumes.

“Their energy and enthusiasm is so contagious.”

It’s more than just a fun fall tradition—it’s an event that connects families, creates joy, and strengthens bonds between the club and the community.

A Daring Memory

Some memories stick because they push you outside your comfort zone—and for Alexa, that meant stepping off the edge of a building! She recalls rappelling down the Wells Fargo building in 2019 and again at the Pendo building in 2024 as part of the Special Olympics’ Over the Edge campaign.

“It’s such a unique experience and always so amazing to see the community come together for a great cause.”

Proud Moments: The Cornament

If there’s one event that makes Alexa beam with pride, it’s Civitan’s annual Cornament—a cornhole tournament that raises money for Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC). Over the years, this event has become a beloved tradition, raising more than $45,000 and bringing people together to play, laugh, and give back.

“The impact of the funds raised continues to make a difference long after the event.”

The Cornament is a true reflection of Civitan’s spirit—service, fun, and community impact—all rolled into one.

Why We’re Grateful for Alexa

From her first volunteer day at Raleigh City Farm to leading the club as President, Alexa has shown what it means to embody the Civitan spirit. Her journey is a reminder that service is about more than giving your time—it’s about finding your place, lifting others up, and creating lasting change.

We’re so grateful for Alexa’s dedication, leadership, and heart—and we can’t wait to see all the good she’ll continue to bring to Civitan and the Raleigh community. After serving on the board for a total of five years, she will be rolling off after serving as Past President. We cannot thank Alexa enough for her dedication to Triangle YP Civitan!
