Member Spotlight: Jordan

When you meet Jordan, one thing becomes clear right away: he’s always ready to lend a hand and dive into experiences that connect him to both people and purpose.

Getting Started with Civitan

Jordan first discovered Triangle Young Professionals Civitan back in 2017. At the time, he was new to the area and, like many young professionals, was looking for ways to meet people and make meaningful connections in his new city. While browsing MeetUp for interest groups, Civitan jumped out to him.

It wasn’t completely unfamiliar—Jordan had been a member of Jr. Civitan in middle school. By 2018, he officially joined Triangle YP Civitan and quickly found a space where service, friendship, and community came together.

“I wanted to do something meaningful with my time,” Jordan shared. “I enjoy learning about the different organizations in the Triangle through Civitan and seeing the impact our presence can have.”

Favorite Volunteer Events

When asked about his favorite volunteer event, Jordan had a tough time choosing just one. Two stood out: Special Olympics and Carolina Tiger Rescue.

Both events highlight different aspects of what makes Civitan so impactful. At Special Olympics, he gets to cheer on athletes, celebrate victories, and witness the pure joy of accomplishment. At Carolina Tiger Rescue, he’s able to learn about the importance of conservation and see big cats—rescued from unsafe situations—up close in a way most people never experience outside of a zoo.

“It’s pretty cool learning about an organization so close to Raleigh that rescues big cats and educates people about the different species,” he said.

A Memorable Moment

Jordan’s favorite Civitan memory is one for the books: rappelling down the Wells Fargo building in Raleigh for the Over The Edge fundraiser.

“I don’t necessarily have a fear of heights, but being so high up and actually scaling a building was a mix of exhilaration and terror,” Jordan laughed. “I’m glad I had the opportunity to do it—it was such a unique experience.”

Pride in Service

While rappelling down a skyscraper is hard to beat, Jordan says the event he’s most proud of is the Special Olympics Summer Games. It was the first large-scale service project he participated in after joining Civitan, and it continues to hold a special place in his heart.

“Seeing the athletes compete and sharing in the joy when they receive their medal is really something special,” he reflected.

Why Jordan Inspires Us

Jordan’s journey with Civitan reflects the heart of the organization: finding community through service, embracing new experiences, and creating moments of joy for others. From scaling buildings to celebrating athletes, he’s always ready to step up and make a difference.

We’re so grateful for his energy and commitment to serving others—he reminds us that meaningful connections often start with a single step (or in his case a MeetUp search).
