Member Spotlight: Learyn
We love welcoming new faces to Triangle YP Civitan—and this month’s spotlight features one of our newer members who’s already made a major impact. Meet Learyn, who first joined us in October 2024 and hasn’t looked back.
After moving back to the Triangle, she was looking for a way to reconnect with the community and meet like-minded people who care about service and know how to have a good time. She found Civitan.
“When I first heard about Civitan, it seemed like a great mix of socializing and volunteering. I was immediately impressed with how friendly the group is and the variety of volunteer opportunities available.”
Finding Community Through Service
It didn’t take long for Learyn to jump into action. Her very first event—before even officially joining—was the Hurricane Helen donation drive, and it left a lasting impression.
“I was so impressed with how quickly the group organized not just members of the organization, but also local businesses and other residents in the Triangle to collect an astounding amount of supplies for western NC.”
What started as a way to help turned into a day full of teamwork, laughter, and a lot of fully packed trucks.
“It was so satisfying each time we completely filled another truck—and still had donations coming in.”
While Learyn loves any project that involves power tools, the Special Olympics Spring Games stood out as an especially meaningful experience.
“It was so inspiring watching the athletes compete—and honestly a great time to celebrate with them at the podium. Just about every athlete I met was ecstatic to be there, regardless of what award they were getting.”
From cheering on athletes to witnessing pure joy on the podium, it was a powerful reminder of why we serve.
Why Civitan?
For Learyn, joining Civitan has been about more than just volunteering—it’s about connection, community, and showing up for causes that matter.
She found all that—and more—at Civitan. And we couldn’t be happier to have her in our organization!
